Hair Health Hub

Trichology is the science of hair and scalp health. It looks at how hair and scalp function, as well as the conditions that can affect them. Clinical trichology focuses on diagnosing and treating hair and scalp disorders to restore health and confidence.

At Essex Trichology, we are dedicated to restoring and enhancing your hair health through expert consultation and personalized treatment plans.

Essex Trichology

Trichologists provide specialist assessment and management of hair and scalp disorders and may, when appropriate, recommend onward referral to other clinical or surgical services. This may include consultation with organisations such as the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgery for patients considering surgical intervention.

Although trichologists are highly trained in the diagnosis and management of hair and scalp conditions, they are not medically licensed to prescribe medication or perform biopsies. If pharmacological treatment or histological investigation is required, the trichologist will liaise with the patient’s GP or dermatologist. Collaborative care is prioritised to ensure continuity, appropriate escalation, and optimal clinical outcomes.

All registered trichologists are listed with The Institute of Trichologists and adhere to its Code of Professional Practice and Ethics. Patients can therefore be assured that they will receive evidence-based care within a professional and accountable framework.

Patients experiencing treatment-induced alopecia, including hair loss associated with chemotherapy, can also receive guidance and emotional support. Educational resources—such as the Chemotherapy and Hair Loss booklet available from the Institute of Trichologists—are often provided as part of supportive care. Initial Consultation

During your consultation, a detailed case history is taken, including medical background and hair care practices. The hair and scalp are examined using trichoscopy to assess their condition. If required, diagnostic tests such as blood investigations may be recommended. When medical involvement is necessary, I will liaise with your GP or a relevant specialist for further evaluation.
